About Us

Our dogs compete in AKC conformation and performance events. Temperament and health are primary considerations in our breeding program. Our adult dogs participate in our community as therapy dogs and as Reading Education Assistance Dogs. They are retired or registered therapy dogs with National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc. We have 7 therapy dog titles (THD) from the dogs in our household. Some of our dogs are also blood donors.

What is a THD?
You will notice that most of our dogs have THD following their names. THD stands for “Therapy Dog.” THD is new AKC title given to dogs who work with accepted organizations and have made 50 or more visits as a therapy dog.  Our dogs typically have worked throughout their adult years serving the community and bringing cheer and love to many.

What is an RN?
We have many therapy dogs at Rivercliff, but the RN does NOT stand for Registered Nurse!  RN is “Rally Novice” and it’s the first level title in Rally Obedience, a relatively new sport that English Setters often find more interesting that traditional obedience.  English Setters are very intelligent and empathic  dogs, but they are easily bored.  The Rally program has many exercises that require more mental effort to remember on the part of the owner and the dog. Although it is hard for us to find time for all the activities we would enjoy participating in, we do Rally whenever we have time.
